Cypriot cuisine

Cypriot cooking is Mediterranean with a Turkish thread: halloumi, meze, spit-roasted meat and plenty of pulses.

Meze in Cyprus is not a prelude to the meal but the meal itself: twenty or thirty dishes in sequence, ordered for a group for the whole evening.

Halloumi has been made on the island since the Middle Ages, and since 2021 the name has held European protected designation of origin.
