Ugandan cuisine

Ugandan cooking is built on matoke bananas, root crops and peanut sauces, and on the street on chapati.

For the Buganda, matoke is not a side dish but the idea of food itself: the word means both the banana and the meal. They are boiled, steamed, smoked and roasted.

The Indian community left chapati and samosa behind, and both became Ugandan enough that the country's street food is built on them.
