Roll any number of dice with any number of sides, add a modifier, and see each result plus the total.

Physical dice go missing exactly when a game starts. This rolls any combination — 2d6 for a board game, d20 for a skill check, 4d6 for rolling up a character.

Individual results are shown, not just the total, because in most games the individual numbers matter: doubles, critical hits, or dropping the lowest die.

What to keep in mind

Each die is fair and independent, which real dice only approximate.
Uses a pseudo-random generator — fine for games, not for anything requiring cryptographic randomness.

FAQs

Is this as fair as a physical die?

Fairer, in practice. Real dice have moulded pips, rounded corners and manufacturing bias; the generator here has none of that.

Why is 7 so common on two dice?

Because six of the 36 combinations add to seven, while only one gives two. Totals in the middle simply have more ways of happening.

What does 3d6+2 mean?

Roll three six-sided dice, add them, then add 2. Set the count to 3, sides to 6 and modifier to 2.

Can I roll unusual dice?

Yes, any number of sides from 2 to 1000. That covers d3, d7 and other shapes that do not exist as physical objects.

Worked example

A skill check

Input: 1d20 + 5

Output: A roll from 1 to 20, plus 5

Note: With 2d6 the totals are not flat: 7 comes up six times as often as 2, because there are six ways to make it and only one way to make snake eyes.
