Final grades, not term grades

The average across all final subject grades, the breakdown by grade, and how close the certificate is to being awarded with distinction.

The certificate average uses final annual grades for every subject, including physical education, safety studies and technology. That detail catches people out: leaving them off gives a flattering figure, while college admissions count every subject.

Distinction is a separate question. It requires top marks in every subject without exception, and the calculator shows immediately how many fours stand between you and that.

Which subjects count?

All of them with a final grade, physical education, art, music, technology and safety included. That is why the real figure usually comes in below the core-subject impression.

What average does a college need?

It varies by programme and region: 3.8 to 4.2 for general courses, from 4.5 for popular ones, and 4.8 and above for funded places in capital-city colleges.

What does distinction require?

Top marks in every subject plus passing the exams. A single four anywhere, physical education included, rules it out.

Can a final grade be changed?

The annual grade follows from the term grades, so those are what to fix while the year is still running. After the final grade is entered, retakes are rarely available.

Note: That is a strong figure — college competition typically clears at 4.3 to 4.6. Three more top marks would have earned distinction.
